Sometimes it's the small, pesky little sons of b!tches that are the culprit for some games not working, even quite old games, so it's worth double checking. Sometimes, even with some older games, there are game-specific files that are only installed when you go through all the packages, (DirectX, VCRedist, etc), because, as they aren't standardised files, the game has to put them on your system as they wouldn't be included in the general installer for DirectX, VCRedist, etc. I haven't got this installed at the moment so can't check myself). Have you definitely installed all the packages located in your Redist folder? (I assume there is one.
